Photo #4 The commissioning agency, the City of Tampa, Public Art Program required continuous lighting from dusk to dawn daily.
Photo #1 The designer’s solution “to update and refresh” the façade of the Municipal Office Building at City Hall Plaza, Tampa Florida, is to respond to the vibrancy and potential of the city and permanently capture some excitement in light, engage a pleasing perception of the city.
Photo #5 Therefore long life 150W ceramic metal halide lamps were combined with precise optics and attached adjacent to six clusters of glass. Custom wet location luminaires were mounted to the surface that create controlled beam of light (10°) powerful enough to make colors pop yet shielded to the extent that stray light was all but eliminated. The center beam intensity was 179,000 candela focused through a truncated snoot that was additionally provided with a baffle. The diachroic laminated safety glass is mounted with stainless steel fasteners to the stone façade. Total input per cluster is 167W. The Project covers an area 59’W x 100’H and units project a total of 20” from the façade.

Photo #2 Like Tampa itself, the lights ebb and flow with the changing ambient light, reflecting the dynamism of the city.
Photo #6 Luminous Affirmations reflects the diversity and excitement of the constantly transforming streetscape.
Photo #3 The project is a series of diachroic laminated safety glass panels mounted to the monolithic windowless façade fronting City Hall Plaza in a pattern emphasizing the vertical thrust of the building’s architecture while celebrating the diversity of people within and around it.
